Comis Orthopaedics presented their newest solution to femoral neck targeting at the 2008 British Orthopaedic Association Annual Congress in Liverpool to a filled auditorium of surgeons, engineers and medical personnel. The topic of discussion was the causes of wear in hip resurfacing and Metal-on-Metal articulated big femoral head total hip replacement.

The patented Chana ENTA^® (Electronic Neck Targeting Assistant) is a revolutionary new handheld system for femoral neck targeting that can calculate the true centre of the femoral neck in less than 1 minute.

Femoral neck targeting has been a hot topic of discussion recently, and there have been many electronic solutions to femoral neck targeting. All of these instruments have proven to be cumbersome and take too longer time to both set up and use. There can also be a large learning curve associated with this type of technology.

The Chana ENTA^® is a simple, easy to use system that uses robotic measuring arms to find the true centre of the femoral neck.

The launch of MIHR^® - March 2008

On the 17th March 2008 the MIHR^® system was launched. A large crowd of surgeons, doctors and engineers gathered at the Royal College of Physicians to witness the delivery of this concept to the world...

On the 17th March 2008 the MIHR^® system was launched. A large crowd of surgeons, doctors and engineers gathered at the Royal College of Physicians to witness the delivery of this concept to the world.

Speakers included Mr G S Chana F.R.C.S. Ed Orth, describing the MIS system from an operative technique point of view, and Mr V Johnson of Hull University to speak about Total Hip Replacement and its relevance today.

Engineering research into the use of the implants in patients was presented by two professors of Tribology, from Loma Linda University, California. They touched upon subjects such as the wear of Metal on Metal joints and their relative success rates. A rigorous questions and answers session between the audience and the speakers was followed by a dinner where the speakers could talk to those interested parties in more detail.
